Malaysia My Second Home: Silver, Gold and Platinum Compared

Summary

MM2H Silver requires a USD 150,000 deposit and a home above RM600,000 (5 years); Gold USD 500,000 and RM1,000,000 (15 years); Platinum USD 1,000,000 and RM2,000,000 (20 years).

Three tiers

  • Silver: USD 150,000 fixed deposit, a home above RM600,000, 5 years’ residence
  • Gold: USD 500,000 fixed deposit, a home above RM1,000,000, 15 years’ residence
  • Platinum: USD 1,000,000 fixed deposit, a home above RM2,000,000, 20 years’ residence, with the right to work and run a business

Other requirements

  • Applicants must be at least 25
  • Buy the home within 12 months of approval, generally holding it for 10 years
  • Also meet the state’s minimum price for foreign buyers — higher in states such as Kuala Lumpur
  • Applicants aged 25 to 49 must spend a total of 90 days a year in Malaysia

Your spouse, unmarried children and parents can be included.

Note

MM2H is a long-term Social Visit Pass, not permanent residence.

MM2H application process and timing

  1. Assessment and tier choice (1–2 weeks): Choose the tier and state that suit your family.
  2. Application (Several months): Submit through a licensed agent and pass the checks.
  3. Conditional approval and entry (After approval): Enter Malaysia to open the fixed deposit, complete the medical and arrange insurance.
  4. Home purchase and pass (Within 12 months): Buy a qualifying home and collect your multiple-entry pass.

Main MM2H requirements

  • Aged 25 or over (21 for the Special Economic Zone category)
  • A fixed deposit by tier: Silver USD 150,000, Gold USD 500,000, Platinum USD 1,000,000
  • A home purchased within 12 months of approval: from RM600,000 (Silver), RM1,000,000 (Gold) or RM2,000,000 (Platinum), also meeting the state’s minimum price for foreign buyers
  • Applicants aged 25 to 49 must spend a total of 90 days a year in Malaysia (by the main applicant or a dependant)
  • Submission through a licensed agent, background checks and a medical examination
