Comparing donation and property routes, and Grenadian citizenship by donation

Written by Global Immigrate consultants · Reviewed by Fergus Wu, Co-founder & Chief Immigration Consultant

Summary

Ms Wan’s Grenada citizenship experience. She wanted second passports for the family.

Background

Ms Wan, from Hong Kong, applied with her husband and two children. She wanted second passports for the family.

Main concern

She wasn’t sure whether the donation or property route suited them better.

Our approach

We compared both routes on amount, holding period and exit, and she chose the donation route.

Process and outcome

She was approved through the donation route in about 7 months.

Adviser’s comment

The donation route is simple; the property route requires holding for a period — compare by your needs.

Grenada citizenship application process

  1. Assessment and choice of route (1–2 weeks): We compare the donation and real estate routes.
  2. Documents (1–2 months): Prepare identity, source-of-funds and background documents.
  3. Application and due diligence (Several months): Apply through an authorised agent and undergo due diligence.
  4. Payment and passport (After approval): Complete payment and receive your certificate of citizenship and passport.

FAQ

Can I apply for a US E-2 visa straight after gaining citizenship?

No. Under US legislation amended in 2022, people who acquired Grenadian nationality through investment must first live in Grenada as their permanent home for three continuous years before applying for an E-2 visa.

How many family members does the donation cover?

A USD 235,000 donation to the National Transformation Fund covers the main applicant and up to three family members. The real estate route is USD 270,000 (shared project) or USD 350,000 (sole investment), held for five years.

Is there an interview?

Applicants generally attend an interview, as arranged by the Citizenship by Investment Unit.
