Group asset management alongside immigration, planned together

Written by Global Immigrate consultants · Reviewed by Oscar Yip, Founder & Managing Director

Summary

Mr Mak’s CIES experience. He wanted Hong Kong as a base for managing his assets.

Background

Mr Mak, from Singapore, applied with his wife. He wanted Hong Kong as a base for managing his assets.

Main concern

Immigration and investment were handled separately, making coordination complex.

Our approach

We combined CIES with GI Group’s asset management services, planning immigration and investment together.

Process and outcome

He completed the investment and received residence in about 10 months.

Adviser’s comment

Planning immigration and asset management together reduces coordination and avoids conflicts.

CIES application process

  1. Asset assessment (2–4 weeks): We review your proof of net assets and investment plan.
  2. Net asset assessment (Several months): Submit the application and pass the net asset assessment.
  3. Make the investments (Within the required period): Complete the permissible investments as required.
  4. Residence (After approval): Receive your visa and extend when the conditions are met.

FAQ

Can I invest in real estate?

Yes. Residential property must be a single property meeting the required transaction price, and real estate (residential and non-residential combined) counts for up to HKD 10 million.

Can I hold the investments through a company?

Yes. Since March 2026, applicants can hold permissible investment assets through an eligible Hong Kong private holding company that they wholly own.

Do I need to live in Hong Kong?

CIES mainly requires you to maintain your investments; how long you live in Hong Kong affects your later eligibility for permanent residence.
