Argentina Rentista / Passive-Income Residence 2026: Conditions and Process

Written by Global Immigrate consultants · Reviewed by Oscar Yip, Founder & Managing Director

Summary

Argentina often allows temporary residence based on stable passive income and lawful housing, then permanent residence after meeting time and other tests. There is no single buy-to-immigrate golden-visa structure.

Short answer: One common path to residence in Argentina is proving stable passive income or financial means, plus lawful housing, first obtaining temporary residence and later permanent residence when time and other conditions are met. There is no single official “buy a home, get status” golden-visa product. Eligible family members may be assessed together.

Information current as of October 2026.

How much income must be shown?

Income should show stability and a clear trail, not a one-off credit. Authorities may request bank letters, contracts, rent or dividend evidence—follow current Dirección Nacional de Migraciones (DNM) guidance, which can change.

Item Detail
Nature of income Stable passive income or demonstrable means
Amount Follow current migration authority guidance
Housing Lawful lease or title evidence
Documents Police, birth/marriage records with legalisation
Family Spouse and dependent children assessable

When dependants are included, means evidence usually must cover the household.

How long until permanent residence?

Lawful temporary residence for the required period, plus presence and character tests. How “continuous residence” is counted and whether long absences interrupt the clock follow current rules. Renew on time to avoid gaps. See Argentina residence.

Must I buy property?

Not necessarily. A qualifying lease can evidence housing; purchase is a personal choice and does not automatically create immigration eligibility. If you buy, keep the immigration filing separate and state that the contract does not guarantee status.

How does it compare with Paraguay and Panama?

Argentina centres on means and housing; Paraguay often uses deposit-style proof; Panama’s qualified-investor path has higher floors and a clearer PR structure. Compare five-year cash flow (FX, rent, document travel), not headline thresholds alone. See also Paraguay residence and Panama Qualified Investor.

Pre-filing checklist

Passport validity, police certificates by country, relationship legalisation chains, Spanish translations matching passport names, lease terms and move-in dates, biometrics appointments. Budget multiple trips and RFE time.

Global Immigrate note

Confirm income is traceable and documents can be legalised before booking housing and biometrics. Applications are handled by Global Immigrate’s in-house professional immigration team.
