The designated agency’s role
FGES is run by the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program with agencies approved by the province. The agency will:
- Assess your business plan and pitch deck
- Decide whether to issue a letter of recommendation
- Provide coaching, networks and support after you launch
Examples of designated agencies
The province’s published list includes Platform Calgary, Empowered Startups and Elite Global Group, among others; check the latest list from the Government of Alberta.
Improving your chances
- Choose an eligible sector: technology, aerospace, financial services, energy, agriculture, tourism, life sciences or pharmaceuticals.
- Make the business plan specific: market, revenue model, operating plan in Alberta and use of funds.
- Keep the pitch sharp: usually about 10 minutes.
- Show relevant experience: at least 6 months of business or incubator experience.
After the recommendation
The letter is a required document for your EOI. Once invited, you have 90 days to submit the full Business Application.
