Obtain residence or permanent residence in an EU country, Panama or Paraguay through investment — mostly with no need to relocate.
Europe’s golden visa and permanent residence programmes give investors residence or permanent residence in an EU country, with visa-free travel across the Schengen Area; several have no stay requirement, making them a good second status for a family. Panama’s Qualified Investor programme grants permanent residence directly through US-dollar assets, with territorial taxation; Paraguay’s investor route lets you apply for permanent residence directly once a qualifying investment, such as USD 200,000 in real estate, earns the investor certificate.

Portugal generally requires ten years of legal residence before applying for citizenship; the other countries each have their own residence requirements, assessed case by case.
Portugal requires 7 days in the first year, then 14 days every two years; Greece and Malta have no minimum stay; Cyprus and Panama generally require a visit every two years; Paraguayan permanent residence can be lost after more than three consecutive years abroad without good reason.
Residence or permanent residence does not necessarily include the right to take up employment; it depends on each country’s rules.
