Thailand Long-Term Residency (LTR / Thailand Privilege)

Choose Thailand’s 10-year Long-Term Resident visa, or 5 to 20 years of residence through membership — whichever suits your assets and needs.

Reviewed by Fergus Wu · Updated October 2026

Programme overview

Thailand offers foreigners two main routes to long-term residence. The Long-Term Resident (LTR) visa is a 10-year visa for wealthy individuals, retirees and skilled professionals. Thailand Privilege (formerly Thailand Elite) grants 5 to 20 years of multiple-entry residence for a one-time membership fee, with no income, age or property requirements. Neither leads directly to permanent residence or citizenship.

Thailand long-term residency FAQ

How do I choose between LTR and Privilege?

Privilege grants residence for a membership fee with simple formalities, suiting families who want to live long term without a large investment; LTR needs more assets or income but offers a 10-year visa, and some categories can apply for a digital work permit (the Work-from-Thailand category is not granted one).

Can I obtain permanent residence or citizenship?

Neither route leads directly to permanent residence or citizenship.

Can I work in Thailand?

Privilege membership does not include the right to work; some LTR categories can apply for a digital work permit, but the Work-from-Thailand category is not granted one.
