Newzealand Immigration - Visitors Visa

Follow these steps if you wish to apply for a visa or permit to:

  • travel to New Zealand
  • be in New Zealand to visit
  • visit your partner who is a New Zealander or resident in New Zealand
  • travel to new Zealand for a short term specific purpose (limited purpose)
  • visit for the purpose of a culturally arranged marriage.

You must submit all documents with your application that are listed in the application forms for your application to be accepted –  Note – special procedures are in place for visitor’s permit applicants residing in the Auckland region.

 

Step 1:

Complete the Application for Visiting New Zealand (NZIS 1017) form available from New Zealand Immigration Service offices in New Zealand and overseas OR if you are residing in the Auckland region the Auckland Regions visitor's permit application form (NZIS 1111).

If you are a holder of a Visitor’s Permit and wish to extend your stay in New Zealand you may be able to apply for a further Visitor’s Permit through Online Services.

Note: There may be additional requirements you must meet depending on the category you are applying under or the country from which you are applying. Any special requirements can be found in the guides and application forms or are available from your local branch.

Step 2:

Along with your completed (and signed) application form you will also need to provide all the information listed at the front of the application form and the correct fee.  If you do not submit the required information with your application it will not be able to be accepted for processing.

Step 3

Are you:

  • Visiting New Zealand for more than six months? You may also need to provide a completed Temporary Entry X-ray Certificate (1096) to show you have been screened for tuberculosis (TB). 
  • Visiting New Zealand for more than two years? You will need to provide a completed Medical and X-ray Certificate (NZIS 1007) 

    Note: Pregnant women and children under the age of 11 years are not required to submit X-ray certificates unless a special report is required.

Details concerning the changes to student policy announced by the Minister of Immigration on 19 April 2005 are now available.

Amendment Circular (No. 2005/04) contains amendments to Government immigration policy and Government residence policy in the NZIS Operational Manual.
The total points you need to qualifiy for skilled migration is at least 100 points.
