The Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP) has been very successful since it was introduced on 28 January 2002. The most significant changes to HSMP took place on 31 October 2003.
HSMP Changes
- There are now two similar HSMP schemes, one for those over 28 years of age and another for those under 28 years.
- The Points Requirement went down to 65 points for all those applying under HSMP for both schemes.
- You gain ten additional points if you have a spouse or partner who has degree level qualifications or has graduate level work experience under both highly skilled migrant schemes.
- You now gain five additional points if you are under 28 years of age.
- If you are under 28 years of age you will need far less work experience than before to gain points under the work experience scoring area.
- If you are under 28 years of age the level of income you will need to show to gain points under past earnings will be far lower than under the old Highly Skilled Migrant Programme system.
The previous changes of 28 January 2003 enabled far more people to qualify under HSMP. The latest changes of 31 October 2003 will mean a huge increase in the number of people who can now qualify. As before, Doctors entitled to practice as general practitioners in the UK should seriously consider this programme as their application will be considered a priority application.
